Our research teams are involved in numerous international laboratories and research projects abroad, where they develop strategic scientific collaborations while contributing to the international visibility and attractiveness of Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA).
International laboratories or centers
International Research Laboratories (IRL)
IRLs are laboratories located at a single site worldwide, within which joint research activities are conducted around shared scientific priorities. They are structured around the significant and long-term presence at this site of scientists from a limited number of French and foreign research institutions (only one foreign partner country).

International Research Projects (IRP)
IRPs are virtual laboratories in which human and material resources are pooled for a research project involving several research teams or laboratories in France and abroad that have previously collaborated on joint publications. Their purpose is to organize working meetings or seminars, develop joint research activities—including field research—and supervise students.

International Research Networks (IRN)
The purpose of this consortium is to build an emerging international scientific community centered on a shared research theme or research infrastructure. It brings together researchers from one or more French laboratories—including at least one CNRS laboratory—and several partner laboratories abroad. These collaborations include the organization of workshops, seminars, or training programs in France and abroad. They define specific objectives regarding expected outcomes—beyond mere scientific engagement—as well as the added value of international collaboration. They are exploratory in nature.
